In an interview with MMA OddsBreaker’s James Lynch, UFC welterweight Bojan Velickovic disclosed his coaching partner, former RFA welterweight champion Brandon”Ruckus” Thatch has been booked to take on Brazil’s Erick Silva. There is no official date and location for the fight booking, along with the bout has not been formally declared, however, Velickovic did say that it is in September, so one would guess that may be September 24th’s UFC Fight Night 95 at Silva’s backyard of Brasilia, Brazil. Both 170-pounders have their backs against the wall heading into this competition, as Thatch is coming off three consecutive losses, being finished by rear naked choke entry in three of these and Silva is coming off a pair of defeats himself, most recently a barbarous knockout at the hands of Nordine Taleb. This is a small surprise match-up, as many guessed there was a good possibility both welterweights are receiving their walking papers from the advertising following their most recent outings inside the Octagon. The UFC has decided that one of them should stick around, and in a marketing where some fighters become cut these welterweights are fortunate. The two Thatch and Silva have seemed to be about a decrease in recent bouts, so it will be interesting to see how they will appear against each other when they square off this September. 1 fighter’s UFC narrative will last, while the one who tastes defeat will likely be inching closer to some Bellator contract, even as it would probably serve him better to just hang up the gloves for good.
